Our Learning Program

We honour every child’s right to play, build on their existing learning from home, and provide foundations to be a lifelong learner.

Listening and Learning Together
C&K Curriculum Approach

An early childhood curriculum for children from birth to 5

At C&K, we see children from birth as thinkers and theorisers rich in ideas and knowledge. We believe all children are powerful learners and active citizens.

C&K’s early childhood curriculum, Listening and Learning Together: C&K Curriculum Approach, aligns with The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG), incorporating contemporary practices and understandings of early childhood education.

We carefully use an anti-bias curriculum to promote fairness, empowerment and respect. Our programs also focus on role-modeling equity and inclusion.

In the year before school, university-qualified teachers guide and support children to become curious, capable, and collaborative learners. Our approach for infants and toddlers emphasises slowing down and engaging with the child, encouraging exploration of the world.

Our Kindergarten Program

Nurturing a lifelong love of learning through play.

Our dedicated and qualified teachers and educators nurture healthy minds and bodies, celebrating each child’s individual strengths to support their participation and growth towards their full potential.

We co-design vibrant learning communities with children, families, and communities, creating a safe place where your child can make friends and belong.

Our indoor and outdoor spaces ignite imaginations and foster curiosity as children explore, experiment, play, and learn. Educators are open to your child’s ideas and will guide their social and emotional growth, providing many opportunities to explore, solve problems, develop friendships, use their creativity, and play.

Time is taken to prepare children for the transition to school and to cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

All of C&K's community kindergartens and childcare centres deliver a government-approved kindergarten program.

Our Infant and Toddler Approach

How we build relationships, care for and engage in learning with our babies and toddlers.

C&K has developed an infant and toddler approach which informs the way we care for and educate our babies and toddlers.

Our philosophy for this age is to slow down and be in the moment with your child as they learn and explore the world. We focus on developing a deep and trusting relationship with each baby and toddler.

C&K educators in our childcare centres across Queensland focus on this approach to provide for and develop a program that meets the needs of each individual child and family.

Babies are naturally interested in the wonder of the world - and we love to wonder with them.

Learning through play at C&K

What does play-based learning look like?

Play-based learning reflects the children, educators, families and communities at your C&K centre. Our educators enrich and extend children's play to create learning opportunities that are meaningful and joyful for your child.

For example, if your child is playing in the sandpit, an educator may encourage them to draw maps in the sand and label them or measure the water levels in the dam they have built. In this example, the educator is purposely supporting your child’s interest in exploring opportunities for literacy and numeracy development.

Some areas of focus at C&K centres include nature play, risky play, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), literacy and language, and the arts. We also actively engage in exploring different cultures and sharing First Nation peoples' stories.
